Our Field Biologist

"From a very young age I fell in love with the natural world. From catching frogs to discovering wildlife tracks along rivers, to finding salamanders in the woods and discovering an endangered Luna Moth in my own back yard. I was born a naturalist! It is who I am. The interconnectedness of all wild living things in nature, has always been apparent to me. As a young girl I was passionately concerned with defending and protecting wildlife and their habitats. With that passion, I earned a Bachelors in Science in Biology with a concentration in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and continue to focus my energies in wildlife study and conservation. I am excited to continue that journey and to share with others what I have learned."

Our biologist loves life! Her name is Soraya (Soar-rye-yuh). Her vast field experiences have nurtured her love for the natural world since childhood. From experiences with archeological investigations, herpetological lab work, to remote field camera monitoring of mammal species, to assisting with rattlesnake and lizard surveys, to habitat restoration and to surveying threatened bird species; her interests in the natural sciences is indeed broad. She is also The Wandering Naturalist, you can learn more about her at her field biology blog.

In the field, there is no doubt that our biologist carries with her a genuine interest, excitement and passion for all living things! We know your little explorers will enjoy exploring and learning with her as their guide into that wonderfully diverse world of ours.
